In May this year, I was part of the "Unseen of Motherhood" exhibition by Mama on Palette, held from 12 - 25 May 202 at the South Beach Tower. Amidst the powerful display of maternal emotions by the talented mother artists, my corner was a whimsical escape, a tribute to the daydreamer who has always resided within me.
It's funny how life connects the dots. My recent ADHD diagnosis shed light on the root of my lifelong tendency to wander in thought. My art pieces, inspired by local Singaporean motifs like the dragon playground, Peranakan tiles, and the Merlion, are a visual representation of that inner world. These whimsical creations, a stark departure from my current style of colourful mantras, were a joy to share with the world. If you are keen to check out the pieces, they are still available on my website.
Being part of this exhibition was like coming full circle. It was a celebration of my roots, my imagination, and the woman I've become. The opportunity to showcase my work alongside other inspiring mothers was truly humbling.
One of the highlights of the event was the launch of the "Singapore In The Eyes of Mother Artist (SITEMA) " book. It's a beautiful collection of stories and artwork that captures the essence of motherhood. I'm honored to have contributed a chapter in the "Home" section that reflects my personal journey.
A Glimpse into the Book:
The book is now available for loan at our National Library branches as well as for purchase at Book Bar and Basheer Bookstore.
Wearable Art: A Dream Come True
Another surreal moment was walking the runway in an outfit of my artwork, "Emotional Landscape." It was yet another full-circle moment, transforming my emotions onto paper and then onto wearable art. It felt like a celebration of my artistic journey and a testament to the power of self-expression. What was even more powerful was the ability to spread the joy of my colours beyond the artwork.
The "Emotional Landscape" collection is available for purchase at local label Ans.ein as short pants, cropped top and a circle maxi skirt.
Let's continue to celebrate the unseen stories of life. Share your passions, your art, your journey because everyone has a valuable place in this world. Together, we can create a world where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.
